Best Heated Insoles – Buying Guide

Type

As you’ve seen here, there are two main types of the heated insole. You can either have the battery inserted into the heel or have it strapped to your ankle.

Ankle batteries can mean the insole can be thinner and more ergonomically designed. Heel batteries mean thicker insoles and also generally have smaller heating areas around your foot.

Control

Do you want to have control of exactly how much heat is provided to the insole? Many ankles attached batteries will just have the one setting which gives a great level of warmth.

Some, however, come with a remote control that will give you a few heating levels. This can be good for extending the life of a battery and for when you only need a little bit of warmth.

Ease of use

You want your insoles to be nice and easy to use. Many of the insoles with ankle batteries can slip straight over the top of your existing insoles as they are going to be thin enough to do so.

If the insoles contain a battery, however, then it’s likely that you’ll need to remove the old insole. This can be inconvenient, especially if you have an insole that is glued in.

Foot coverage

Another disadvantage of having a battery in the heel is that it can only provide heat coverage to the front of the insole.

This is where you need it the most but some people prefer to have full warmth coverage and you’re more likely to get this from an insole that can place heating elements throughout the shoe.

Charging and runtime

Most of these insoles are going to charge fairly quickly and can go from nothing to full charge in around 3-4 hours.

The maximum runtime that we’ve seen here is 8 hours but that is at the lower heat setting. Around 4 hours of runtime is a good mark for a maximum setting with some insoles being a little less or more than this.

Warranty

The main gripe about heated insoles is that some models don’t last for very long. If that’s a worry for you then it’s a good idea to make sure that they are backed by either a good warranty or guarantee to protect yourself from receiving a defective product.

Do heated insoles really work?

Yes! Most of them can get up to quite high temperatures that will allow your feet to be warm even on the coldest days. They are highly effective but with different types out there, it’s important to get one that suits your needs so you can get the most out of them.
