  • A deep stabilizing heel cup helps realign your feet to your ankles, and evenly distribute your body weight to avoid concentrating too much pressure on the heels.
  • They are made of premium Ethylene-vinyl Acetate (EVA) which absorbs shock, and cools the feet by absorbing moisture.
  • Antibiotic/anti-microbial treated fabric inhibits the growth of bacteria, especially odour causing bacteria. The fabric also prevent blisters.
  • A medical-grade foot support increases foot stability. The support is sandwiched between the top of the insoles and their base.
  • A 5-millimeter top cover allows the Walk Hero Orthotic to fit well in shoes that have removable insoles.
  • A high-density foam layer provides superior cushioning and return energy for high impact sports.
  • A 7-millimeter arch support reduces stress on the knees, ankles, and feet. Arch support makes a real difference in flat shoes like Vans.

What we like about the Walk-Hero Orthotic Inserts

  • Pain relief: Built-in silicone material and arch support help relieve discomfort caused by bunions, arthritis, diabetes, plantar fasciitis and Achilles tendonitis. They also reduce pressure on the foot, and discomfort caused by walking long distances or running.
  • Durability and versatility: EVA material at the base of the heels makes the Walk Hero Orthotic suitable for a wide variety of footwear such as work boots, basketball shoes, running shoes, dress shoes, casual shoes, and of course your Vans. EVA also ensures durability. Many people have used this insert for more than 2 years!
  • Easy to clean: Maintaining this insole is easy. A cleaning with warm water is all it needs.
  • Orthopaedic function: Arch support improves foot and leg alignment.

What we do not like

  • To be comfortable in these insoles, you must remove the original insoles that came with your Vans. This poses a challenge for users of shoes with built-in or glued-in insoles, like Vans.

Should You Remove the Original Insoles from Vans?

It is recommended to remove the original insoles from Vans before inserting new insoles or orthotics. You want to do this:

  • To prevent the shoes from feeling tight and uncomfortable.
  • To reduce pressure on your feet, especially the arches. Merging two insoles changes their ergonomic structure, which in turn effects your feet.
  • To keep your feet fresh, smelling nice, and to prevent shoe odour. More than one insole reduces either insole’s ability to keep the feet cool, which in turn causes the shoes to smell from sweaty feet.

However, there are certain insoles that do well with original insoles. These insoles are usually flat, thin, and have neutral arch structures so they can adapt to any shoe or insole structure. With these insoles, it is OK to leave the original insoles in your Vans. But for insoles with arch structures or heel cups, removing the original insole in Vans is recommended.

The original insoles in Vans are hard to remove. Considering that most insoles and orthotics are not designed flat or with neutral arch structures, you will need to know how to remove the original insole in Vans without ruining them.

How To Remove Original Insoles from Vans?

Vans insoles come built-in. They are usually glued to the footbed of the shoe and, in a few cases, they are sewn in.

Whatever you do, try not to peel the insoles off the shoes because you will end up defacing the footbed and may spoil the shoe entirely. I have tried this when I needed to insert my orthotics before and ended up ruining my Vans.

Here are few tricks to get over this challenge. They are tested, trusted, and should work for you.

  • Apply heat to reduce the adhesion of the glue. Your source of heat could be a hairdryer or an oven.
  • Hairdryer: turn on the hairdryer to a high heat and concentrate its heat to the insoles to loosen the glue. This should last only for as long as needed
  • Use an oven: put the shoes in the oven for a few minutes to loosen the adhesive but make sure not to leave them in so long that the rubber parts will start to melt.

After using any of these methods, you can use a butter knife to carefully remove the insole from the shoes.

Caution: do not expose the shoes to heat for too long, or to very high heat so the adhesive on other parts of the shoe doesn’t loosen as well.
